General ledger, account statements and trial balance

The general ledger shows posted movements and reversals for the selected posting account, with opening, running and closing balances. The trial balance summarizes account balances; amounts use the company's base currency.

Before you start

Select the correct company and verify permissions. Learn in a test workspace; posting or restoring can change actual data.

Workflow

  1. 1Select the correct company and open Accounting → General ledger. On the Account statement tab, search by account code or name and select a posting account.
  2. 2Choose a preset period or a custom date range. Review the opening balance, debits, credits, running balance and closing balance; movements before the period contribute to the opening balance.
  3. 3Search by entry number, description or party, or filter the movement source. These filters narrow displayed rows only; balances and debit/credit totals still cover the full selected period.
  4. 4Open a movement to inspect its description, entry, date, amount and balance. Open the source document when available to check its invoice or voucher, or open the journal entry for other sources; journal entries and supported source documents can be printed.
  5. 5Switch to Trial balance to review debit and credit balances. Include zero-balance accounts when needed, then open an account to inspect its statement for the same period; check the balance indicator against the full trial-balance totals.
  6. 6Export to Excel or print after checking the account, period and currency. With search or a source filter active, exported rows follow the filter while balance and total rows represent the full period; retain the report's scope note.

Watch this distinction

This review screen does not edit journal entries. Drafts are excluded from the ledger, and a balanced trial balance does not prove correct account selection or source documents. Check the source, currency and period before correcting a discrepancy, and do not duplicate a document's entry with a manual journal.

Verify the result

Reopen the record and check saved values and state. For financial operations, compare the document with the relevant movement and report before continuing.
