Sales returns and customer refunds

Returning goods, correcting the customer balance and refunding cash are related but separate steps. Use the original invoice for quantity and pricing, then check the financial effect.

Before you start

Select the correct company and verify permissions. Learn in a test workspace; posting or restoring can change actual data.

Workflow

  1. 1Open Sales returns and choose the customer and original invoice when the return is invoice-linked.
  2. 2Select only returned items, variants and quantities; review prior returns to avoid returning quantities twice.
  3. 3Review return reason, prices, tax and receiving location using the available fields.
  4. 4Save and approve with the appropriate permission; inspect stock movement and the customer statement.
  5. 5If cash is due back, use the appropriate payment action and party; review allocation before posting.
Captured in local preview. Names and balances are samples; controls can differ with permissions and activated products.

Watch this distinction

Approving a return does not prove money left the bank. Do not fix a draft typing error with a new financial return.

Verify the result

Reopen the record and check saved values and state. For financial operations, compare the document with the relevant movement and report before continuing.
