Review and close an accounting period

Period closure protects approved work under system controls. An incorrect date or unposted documents can leave reports incomplete.

Before you start

Select the correct company and verify permissions. Learn in a test workspace; posting or restoring can change actual data.

Workflow

  1. 1Identify the period and its boundaries; review pending invoices, vouchers and entries within it.
  2. 2Review cash, banks, checks and party balances; inspect reconciliations and unmatched operations.
  3. 3Open trial balance and statements for the same period and currency; investigate differences before closure.
  4. 4In Periods and closing, use the action permitted for your role and carefully review confirmation and date.
  5. 5Reopen the period view and check its state; review the log if a correction or authorized reopening is needed.
Captured in local preview. Names and balances are samples; controls can differ with permissions and activated products.

Watch this distinction

Do not change a document date to evade a closed period. Review corrections with your accountant and preserve a clear audit trail.

Verify the result

Reopen the record and check saved values and state. For financial operations, compare the document with the relevant movement and report before continuing.
