Companies, branches and warehouses: what differs?

A company is a separate data workspace, a branch belongs to it, and a warehouse stores inventory. Company access differs from assigning a document branch or warehouse.

Before you start

Select the correct company and verify permissions. Learn in a test workspace; posting or restoring can change actual data.

Workflow

  1. 1Review the company menu first and select the company for the transaction.
  2. 2Manage branches in the Branches tab of General settings; review the linked warehouse and use clear names.
  3. 3Set defaults, then inspect branch and warehouse on the first new document.
  4. 4Use a stock transfer to move inventory between warehouses instead of editing item balances manually.
Captured in local preview. Names and balances are samples; controls can differ with permissions and activated products.

Watch this distinction

Do not confuse companies and warehouses: an internal stock transfer does not grant access to another company.

Verify the result

Reopen the record and check saved values and state. For financial operations, compare the document with the relevant movement and report before continuing.
