Currencies and saved exchange rates
Currency settings control enabled currencies, display symbols and decimal places. Review saved exchange rates against the company base currency and their date; adding a currency does not revalue balances.
Before you start
Select the correct company and verify permissions. Learn in a test workspace; posting or restoring can change actual data.
Workflow
- Select the correct company and open Settings → Currencies. Check the displayed base currency before adding or editing a currency; changes require the appropriate management permission.
- Choose Add currency and find its ISO code, such as EUR. Review the display symbol and decimal places from 0 to 6, then save; an existing currency's code cannot be changed in the edit form.
- Use the currency status to enable or disable it when needed. The base currency and currencies used by active cash or bank accounts cannot be disabled; disabling other currencies preserves historical records.
- Open Edit to review the latest saved rate, its date and source. The quote means 1 unit of the base currency equals the displayed amount of the selected currency. Refresh rate imports current quotes; inspect the result before using it.
- For a dated manual quote, open Accounting → Finance settings, Exchange rates: /workspace/accounting?module=finance-settings&focus=exchange-rates. Choose the date and enter each currency with a positive quote, such as EUR=0.92, without duplicate currencies, then save.
- Review the date, base currency, source and values in the rates list. Before period-end revaluation, verify the closing-date rate, then follow the revaluation guide and review its preview before posting.
Watch this distinction
A display symbol or decimal setting is not an exchange rate. Refreshing current rates does not replace checking the document-date or closing-date rate and does not automatically correct posted documents. Review the impact before changing the base currency or deleting a manual quote.
Verify the result
Reopen the record and check saved values and state. For financial operations, compare the document with the relevant movement and report before continuing.
